Evaluation Of Final Performance Assessment

Evaluation of Final Performance Assessment

What was the educational message of your play? Why did your group communicate this educational message?

The Educational Message Of My Group Play Was About Trust Issues Before We Decided On Our Topic We Had A Brainstorm Session To Decide. At First We Had Numerous Ideas That We Had To Link To A Fairytale But Many Of Them Our Group Didn’t Have Significant Research For Any Of Them, We Then Decided To Pick A Common Topic Of Which Every Human Being Encounters In Life  In Work, School And Even On Streets. Many People At The Age Of Our Audience Would Have Been Told By There Parents "Don’t Trust Everyone" While Out Of There Sight, Our Group Decided To Raise This Issue Because Of The High Numbers Of Children Trusting Friends And Strangers. In The Play There Was A Main Scene When The Wicked Witch Was Hiding Her Identity To Dorothy. Dorothy Did Not Know Who The Wicked Witch Was So, She Was A Stranger. Although The Scene Wasn’t From Our Chosen Fairytale The Wizard Of Oz But In Fact From The Scene Of Snow White It Still Created A Strong And Naturalistic Scene What May Encounter Someone In Real Life. Our Group Communicated The   Educational Message By Our Audience Encountering This Through There School Years Mainly Starting In There Pre School Year 4.This Topic Has Been On The News Numerous Of Times For Example Little Gets Getting Lifts From Strangers Home Etc. We Communicated Our Topic By Interacting With The Audience When They Were Being Introduced. We Decided To Introduce Every Character To Show There Emotions And Feelings And Insight Of There Where. This Could Also Been Called A Prologue Because The Narrator Was Giving An Insight To The Audience Of What Will Happen In The Play By Giving Them Direct Address.

How your play was based around fairy-tale/ pantomime genre?

My Groups Play Was Based On A Fairytale And Pantomime Genre By Linking Our Educational Message Of The Story Of The Wizard Of OZ. We Used The Story For Trust Issues Because We Were Inspired By Many Fairytales And Decided To Fuse Them Together For Example We Linked The Story Of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs Were The Witch Was Disguised As An Unidentified Character To Snow White. We Used This Scene As The Key Highlight To Link To Our Educational Message. The Character's Personality Of Dorothy And The Witch In The Scene Had To Change Especially The Witch; The Tone Of Her Voice Became Disported And Distinguished To Hide Her Identity To Dorothy. lot Of Exaggeration Was Used In The Scene To Indicate The Stock Characters As The Protagonist And Antagonist (Hero And Villain) Dorothy Had Open Body Language And High Pitch Voice For Example When She Was Locked In The Layer Her Voice Tend To Increase In Pitch And Tone Getting Higher And Higher , This Gave The Audience An Idea That She Was Good And Not Bad, On The Other Hand The Witch Was The Total Opposite Of Dorothy's Character Her Posture Was Slumped, Her Tone Was Coarse , Her Volume Was Loud And Her Pitch Was Low And Intimidated The Young Audience. lot Of Exaggeration And Pantomime Genre Like Interaction With The Audience To Check The Audience Understanding And Are Getting The Plot Of The Play Was Needed To Make Our Play Based Around Fairy Tale Genre. Another Thing We Used Was Magic. Magic Is Always Used In A Fairytale, We Used This Technique In The Scene Of When The Wizard Of Oz Banished The Witch Away, and This Technique Is Mostly Used Before The HEA So The Protagonist Defeats The Antagonist (Hero And Villain).

How was your performance pitched at your target audience (yr4 yr5 yr6?)

Our Performance Was Pitched At Our Target Audience We Used Several Of Techniques To Make Sure The Audience Understood The Play And The Most Important Reason Was The Moral. We Used Clear Stock Characters Between The Good Guys And Bad, For Example Music Was Used To Identify Each Characters Identity And Lighting Was Used To Create The Characters Emotion And Feelings. We Also Modernised The Play To Interact With Our Audience For Example There Was A Scene When The Characters Were Flashed-Back To There Pre School Years When They Attended School, We Used This To Link To Audience And Not Use A Scenery Like A Alleyway Which Wouldn’t Really Be For Our Audience Age Group, Another Example Was The Cheeky Monkeys Where They Said The Treats Would Be Sweets Instead Of Money Which Would Most Likely Be Acceptable For Older Age Audience Instead They Said  "Cheeky Monkeys Are Here For You, Cheeky Monkeys Love Sweets Too" We Used Monkeys Instead Of Monsters Not To Intimidate Our Audience, Music And Lighting Was Also Used To Make The Audience Giggle In The Seats, Comedy And Exaggeration Was Used To Make Sure The Play Was Based For The Age Group Of Our Audience. Everything Had To Be Exaggerated To The Max, Every Little Action And Word Was Put Out Of Our Comfort Zone To Ensure Our Performance Was At Our Targeted Audience.

How did you use drama techniques such as Narration, freeze frames, interaction with the audience, split scenes?

We Used Drama Techniques Such As Narration In The Beginning Of Our Play To Introduce The Stock Characters And The New Stock Characters For Example Joseph Who Was Put Into The Play As The Prince And The Cheeky Monkey As The Witches’ Side-Kick. We Used Narration To Make Sure The Audience Knew Who Each Character Was And Narration Is A Key Feature In A fairytale Genre. We Used Freeze Frames In Our Play At Every Beginning Of A Scene And End In Order To Make Sure The Audience, The Teachers And Our Chemistry Of Ensemble Knew When To Begin And When To End The Scene We Also Used Them To Mark The Moment Of Something Important In The Play For Example When The Witch Was About Kill Dorothy, The Lighting Was Red To Represent Danger, The Scenery Structure Was Clear That We Was In A Dungeon. Interaction With The Audience Was Very Often In Nearly All Of Our Scenes, Every Character Used Interaction To Make Sure The Characters Were Focused And To Make Them Enjoy The Play, A Good Example Of Interaction Was When Joseph Was Locked In The Dungeon Alone, He Was Tied Onto The Chair And Needed To Receive The Key Which Was The Floor, He Then Asked A Member Of The Audience To Actually Stand Up And Help Him Get The Key, This Was A Good Example Of Interaction Because It Got The Audience Excited They Really Responded And Engaged To The Scene Because They Were Getting Engaged With The Play. Splits  Screens Was Used Very Importantly In One Scene In Our Play The Original Name Was Cross-Cutting Were Dorothy And Joseph Were Locked In The Layer We Used This Technique Even Theo Is Was A Risky Idea Because The Audience Wouldn’t Have Really Been Able To Understand What Was Going On. We Used Cross-Cutting To Show Too Things That Was Happening At The Same Time In The Same Place, But Didn’t Want To Put Them In To Different Scene's We Also Used Freeze Frames In This Scene To Create Tension And Directory So We Know When Each Actor Had Finished Talking During The Cross-Cutting.

Discuss how you feel the audience responded to the performance?

I Felt The Audience At First Was Semi-Interactive To Our Performance Like For Example In The Introduction Allot Of The Children Didn’t Respond To Our Questions, They Were Very Shy And Unresponsive To The First Part Of Our Play But As We Performed More And Started Interacting With Them They Began To Come Out Of There Comfort Zone And Started To Enjoy The Play. I Personally Think At Times They Were A Bit Lost Of What Was Going In the Play and There Faces Were Quite Blank but Once We Used Open Body Language
They Began To Understand What Was Going On. I Generally Think They Really Enjoyed And Engaged With The Play Because When Mr.Unugur Asked Them What They Thought The Meaning (Moral) Of The Play Was, They Came Up With Amazing And Correct Answers And They Also Came Up With Ones That We Wouldn’t  Have Thought Of As A Chemistry Of Ensemble.

Did the children respond the audience participation? When was it most effective

I Think The Children Responded Amazingly, Even More Than What I Thought They Would Be. I Think They Were Very Enthusiastic And Engaged  Through  Out The Whole Time From The Beginning To The End They Were Constantly Engaging, Interacting And Coming Out Of There Comfort Zone, Laughing When There Was A Joke And Really Enjoying Them Self’s While Watching The Play. The Most Effective Time Was When Joseph Was Locked In The Dungeon And Needed The Key As I Explained Before, The Children Responses Were Just Amazingly Outstanding They Were So Eager And Wiling To Come Up And Interact With The Play, I Bet Joseph Found It Real Hard To Pick Someone To Come Up But Even Theo Some Didn’t Get Picked In The End They Still Gave 100% Of Interaction And Engagement To The Play.

Describe your character and what decisions you made about your character?

My Character Was Dorothy From The Wizard Of Oz, The Decisions I Made About My Character Was Different From The Original Character Of Dorothy Instead Of A Girl From Kansas, America Who Is Brave And Detriment I Decided To Change Her Personality To A Sweet And Shy Girl Who Is Self Conscious About Her Self. I Decided To This Because I Wanted To Put My Acting Skills To The Level. To Be Quite Honest I Found It Quite Hard To Make The Decisions About My Character And Tried To Make Her Personality Clear To The Audience For Example At I First Decided My Character Should Be Vain But After A Few Rehearsal I Noticed My Faults Of Decision That The Audience May Get Confused Between If I Am The Villain Or If Wilma (The Wicked Witch) Was The Villain, I Then Decided I Should Make My Character Personality Shy And Sweet Who Is Quite Forgetful And Very Bubbly. This Was A Very Easy But Hard Personality To Play For My Character Because I Had To Try Not Link It To The Original Personality Of Dorothy. I Also Decided To Add A Key Fact About My Character That She Loves The Fruits Apples, I Used This To Link The Story Of Snow White To Our Play Because It was Our Key Scene In The Play, In The Begging In The Introduction I Said "Hello My Name Is Dorothy And I Love Apples" This Gave The Audience The Idea That Dorothy Loved Apples And Ate Any Kind. I Think This Decision I Made Was Very Successful Because It Linked The Story Of Snow White, It Gave The Audience The Idea That Dorothy Loved Apples And Created Something Different Than The Original Character Of Dorothy.

How did you develop your character for the final performance using body language, facial expression, gesture, voice and costume?

I Developed My Character For The Final Performance By Using The Original Costume Of Dorothy So The Audience Could Identify My Character Including The Red Shoes Which Wasn’t Used In The Play At All, The Facial Expressions I Developed For My Character Was Not Quite Exaggerated As It Could Be, I Tried To Keep Quite Normal And Simple Because Of  My Characters Personality, I Noticed After I Came Of For A Scene That I Needed To Exaggerate Dorothy's Shyness To Show That To The Audience My Body Language Was Very Sweet For Example In The School Scene My Character Swing Her legs Very Happily On The Chair Another Example Is When She Was Shay When Joseph Asked Her To Be His Valentine She Edged Away Looking Very Self Conscious Not Looking Into Anyone’s Face, Her Head Bowed Showing She’s Shy, Her Voice Was Quite And Increased In Pitch As Usual Even Theo She Had A High Pitched Voice In General. My Characters Gesture Was A Confused Look To Show Her Innocence At Most Times She Would Scratch Her Head Or Say "um" Two Examples Of This Was When The Scene Of The Dungeon The Witch Gave Dorothy Clues To Her Because She Was Unidentified To Dorothy. Dorothy Would Give Wild Or Stupid Guesses With "Mum" At Every Begging Of Her Guess Showing She Was Confused And Gave An Idea To The Audience That She Was Innocent, Another Example Was When Joseph Asked Dorothy To Be His Valentine, She Ended Her Sentence "Um Maybe, Ill Think About It" This Line Showed Dorothy's Personality In A Whole Her Shyness, Her Confusion And Beauty Because Joseph Admired Her.

Discuss when your group used staging effectively?

A Time When Our Group Used Staging Effectively Was When Some The Characters Became A Piece Of An Object For Example In The Scene Of Joseph's Kidnap Two Characters Were Turned Into A Television Set And A Block Was Used A TV Stand And Bed. We Used This Staging Technique To Make The Audience Use There Imagination. Another Example Of When We Used Effective Staging Was When We Used Spotlight And Staging In Our Cross-Cutting Screen This Was Very Effective Because It Was The Scene We Mostly Put Allot Of Thought And Hard Work Into The Most, The Lighting Created Suspension Between The Crossed Scenes Because All The Stock Characters Were Involved. Staging Was Effective Through Out The Whole Of The Play Especially The Blocks, They Became A Whole Range Of Things That You Could Think Of.

On the performance day discuss how the scene transitions worked?

In Honest Truth I Think The Scene Transitions Worked Semi-Albright’s Think This Because At Times When The Black Out Came We Were Very Noisy And Disorganised, Allot Of The Times We  There Was Communication And Even Though The Lights Were Out We Could Still Be Seen Because Of Bad Transitions We Presented I Think This Was Because We Didn’t Know Which Scenes Were Next Because In Rehearsal's They Were Not Planned Properly.

What professional skills did you display during your performance? Was your consistently in role being receptive to your co-actors?
The Professional Skills I Displayed Was Conistensy, I Made Sure I Was Always In Role As My Character. At Times I Really Wanted To Laugh Or Shout Out The Group When We Missed A Few Parts Because Of Incomplete Rehearsal's. My Consistent Role Was Receptive To My Co-Actors Because They Could Interact With My Character And Engage With Her Even Though There Was Allot Of Improvisation That Was Used Because Of Bad Rehearsal's.

How will you prevent the same problems in the future from happening during other units and for other group tasks?

I Think Ill Will Prevent The Same Problem By Making Sure My Co-Actors Focus On The Rehearsal's And Try  Not To Get Distracted. At Some Times The Reason Was We Had Missing Co-Workers But I Think In The Future I Will Prevent The Same Problem By Encourage My Co-Actors To Come To After School Rehearsal And  Arrange Feed Back Sessions Of Scenes We Made Up While They Were Away. And Another Point Is Ill Try To Give All My 100% Best In My Acting, Evaluation And Performances And Show My Appreciation For Drama So Other Group Members Can Follow. To Conclude I Think What A Personal Target Is To Try And Act As A Director And Not Sit Back And Watch As A Spectator.

Evaluation rehearsal process.

Did your group all work as a team? If not why not?

I Think Sometimes Our Group Worked As A Team But I Think Mostly Some People Were Unfocused And Wasn’t Really Cooperating Within Rehearsals. For Example Some Times All Group Members Wouldn’t Focus Or Just Sit Back And Start Interacting With Other Chemistry Of Ensembles Which Made Other Group Members Who Were Willing To Work Annoyed And Frustrated But On The Good Point Was Our Group Also Worked Well When We Discussed Each Others Ideas Giving Feedback And Reasons And Encourage Everyone’s Ideas And Thoughts To The Play.

What obstacles and problems did you face? How did you overcome these?

The Obstacles And Problems Our Group Faced Were When Some Of Our Group Members Were Absent And We Found It Real Difficult To Rehearse We Overcame This Obstacle By Some Actors Had To Multi-Roll And Wrote The New Scenes We Planned To Give To Our Missing Actors To Recap On, We Also Did Discussions To Make Sure They Understood What We Were Doing While They Were Absent.

How did you organise music, staging, props and costume?

We Organised Music, Costume, Lighting And Props Well Because We Knew Each Others Characters So Well And Gave Ideas And Contributed On What We Could Use For Our Play. Our Costumes Had In dividable Meaning To Them, Even Wearing All Black And Just Adding One Prop Could Have A Meaning And Create Imagination And Make The Character Believable To The Audience.

Describe what changes you could make to the material, would you cut or change scenes?

I Wouldn’t Make That Much Changes To The Material ,I Think The Play Went Really Well And Successful But What I Would Have Change Is Our Last Ending Scene Needed To Be Rehearsed On Properly, I Think This Scene Really Destroyed The Play Because It Was The Ending Scene And We Didn’t Really Show The HEA Which Is A Key Features Of A Fairytale Genre, I Wouldn’t Really Want To Delete The Scene Or Cut It Out But Just Developed It or Rehearsed It Bit More Because Personally I Was Very Disappointed In Myself For Not Taking In Action In This Scene Which Really Could Have Easily Been Done But Didn’t In The End.

Was everyone in the group contributing and reliable?
Everyone In The Group Contributed In The Play There Were So Many Ideas From Everyone That We Couldn’t Really Squeeze All The Ideas Into The Play. Everyone Was Kind Of Reliable Sometimes For Example A Group Member Would Have an Idea But Someone Would Disagree Without Any Reason At All. I Think Our Group Needed To Be More Reliable By Saying "I Do Not Think This Idea Would Work Maybe Us Could Or Perhaps Try Something Similar For Example....." I Think This Reliability Would Really Help Because Were Giving Our Point Of Views By Disagreeing And Agreeing To Others Idea's.

What did you contribute to the performance?

I Contributed To The Performance My Time, My Thoughts And My Ideas, In Honest Truth I Was Quite Disappointed About My Directory I Was Quite Laid Back Because I Thought My Group Members Wouldn’t Listen To My Directions Or Might Just Ignore Me Another Thing I Contributed Was My Semi-Best I Realised After A few Days That I Really Did Give 100% Consistency As My Character Or I Didn’t Give All The Exaggeration I Could Have Given In My Rehearsals And Devising But I Tried My Best And Contributed Quite Good To My Performance And I Think It Was Very Successful.
